Washington, American scientists have developed such a drug, which can be useful against superbugs. Its name is fabamycin. During research it was found to be able to kill hundreds of bacteria. All these bacteria are resistant to common drugs.
Superbugs are created by taking too much medicine
A superbug is a bacteria, virus, parasite or fungus that is not affected by antibiotics. The main cause of a bacteria becoming a superbug is taking too many antibiotics. The chromosomes of normal bacteria begin to break down the protein molecules of the antibiotic and develop resistance against them.
According to the Daily Mail report, 7 million people die every year due to superbug infection. It should be taken as seriously as global warming.
The drug is effective on more than 300 superbugs
Fabimycin is a man-made drug that was first tested on mice. Scientists found that it cured drug-resistant pneumonia and urinary tract infections (UTIs) in mice. After further research on this, it was found that this drug is effective in killing more than 300 strains of superbugs.
14 versions of the drug were made
Scientists at the University of Illinois have created 14 versions of Fabimycin. These can help eliminate superbugs that cause conditions like skin infections, blood poisoning and toxic shock syndrome.
These versions were tested on 10 different bacteria in mice. It also contained bacteria called E. coli, which causes UTIs. In addition, K. Fabimycin was also tested on pneumonia bacteria, which cause lung infections and pneumonia.
The growing threat of superbugs
According to the American Health Agency’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are 2.8 million infections due to antibiotic resistance in the country every year. Out of this, about 34,000 people died. At the same time, 61,000 people are affected annually by superbugs in England.
