Worldsfeed News Desk: In a shocking incident, former President Donald Trump narrowly escaped an assassination attempt while addressing a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. According to two law enforcement officials, Trump was quickly whisked away by Secret Service agents after a gunshot wound left his ear covered in blood. Despite the chaos, Trump’s campaign assured the public that he was “fine.”
A local prosecutor confirmed the tragic outcome of the attack: the suspected gunman and at least one attendee lost their lives. Additionally, the Secret Service reported two spectators critically injured during the incident.
Posting on his Truth Social media site roughly two and a half hours post-attack, Trump recounted the harrowing experience. “A bullet pierced the upper part of my right ear,” he stated. “I knew immediately that something was wrong when I heard a whizzing sound, felt the bullet ripping through the skin, and saw the amount of blood.”
This attack, deemed the most severe on a presidential figure since Ronald Reagan’s 1981 shooting, comes at a time of heightened political tension, just four months shy of the presidential elections. Trump is set to be officially named the Republican nominee at the party’s upcoming convention.
Despite the incident, Trump’s campaign expressed determination to move forward. “President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act,” said spokesman Steven Cheung. “He is fine and is being checked out at a local medical facility. More details will follow.”
The Secret Service revealed that the shooter fired from an elevated position outside the rally venue. Trump, they assured, is “safe and being evaluated.”
President Joe Biden, Trump’s rival and presumptive Democratic nominee, condemned the violence. “There’s no place in America for this type of violence,” Biden remarked. “It’s sick. It’s sick.”
Two officials, requesting anonymity to discuss the ongoing investigation, disclosed that the shooter, who was not an attendee at the rally, was killed by Secret Service agents. The U.S. Secret Service counterassault team, a heavily armed tactical unit accompanying the president and major party nominees, neutralized the threat while other agents focused on Trump’s safety and evacuation.
Law enforcement recovered an AR-style rifle at the scene, confirmed by a third person familiar with the investigation.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, whose department oversees the Secret Service, stated that officials are working closely with both the Biden and Trump campaigns, “taking every possible measure to ensure their safety and security.”
